The Bodie Hotel

We stayed here for one night last month as part of a big road trip. It was a really nice stay. The host who greeted us (Jeff?) was friendly and obviously passionate about the history of the hotel and the area (including the ghost town of Bodie). The hotel is quaint and cosy - definitely the most unique out of the 18 hotels we stayed at during our trip. The bedrooms and common areas are distinctly decorated in a wild-west/gold-rush era style. The town of Bridgeport is nice. Plenty of places nearby for all kinds of food and drink. And the nearby ghost-town of Bodie is obviously a must. Our only regret is not stating here an extra night so we could have done more explore of the nearby lakes and hot springs etc.

As a group of friends we stayed at the Bodie Hotel for a night, we were met with a friendly welcome when checking in, and the rooms had some very cool, and unique designs. The hotel has managed to retain some of its historical elements and provided a fun stay inside a beautiful landscape enveloped by mountains and fields.

We had an excellent stay. The decor was beautiful, with a lot of character, and if you’re visiting Bridgeport to visit Bodie, there’s lots of books and information here about Bodie that we couldn’t find online and didn’t get on the tour. One of the owners, Jeff, was there to check us in. He was friendly, chatty, accommodating, and had lots of information about Bodie, the area, and places nearby to catch the fall colors. Supposedly, this hotel is haunted, and we were prepared to have a skepticism challenged by a sound or a sighting in the night— but no luck, it was a quiet, restful stay. Nice details, too: high quality hand soap, shampoo and conditioner, great help yourself espresso machine, and a welcoming den downstairs with what looked like a genuine buffalo skin rug. Just a 5 minute stroll down the road, visit High Sierra Bakery in the morning for sweet and savory pastry options and a strong cup of coffee.

I recently stayed at the Bodie Hotel for the first time and was thrilled to have found this gem. Jeff, the owner of the property was very knowledgeable about the area and gave me great recommendations for places near town to explore. The room was clean and comfortable and a good mix of old world charm, with modern amenities. The history of the building is unique and considering it is a relic of the nearby ghost town, its a chance to step back in time a little and get a more emersive bodie experience. Jeff explained to me that it had been moved here nearly 100 years ago, by horse and wagon. And anyone who knows the road to Bodie, will understand how impressive of a feat that is! I hope to make it back that way soon, and to stay at the Bodie Hotel when I do.

We stayed for 1 night on a road trip in Oct 2025, prior to visiting Bodie State Historic Park. It doesn't pretend to be a luxury hotel but it is certainly an interesting place to stay with great history and it was clean and comfortable. There were a few decent places to eat nearby and a great cafe near too for breakfast. We were pleased we stayed here and if you go with an open mind and realistic expectations of what a historic stay is then you will too.

A complete antidote to corporate motel blandness. Steve is real friendly and informative. The rooms are authentic with aircon. The hotel is clean, but full of charm. There is a common room, kitchen and the bed is very sumptuous. Sat out on the balcony now, I couldn’t think of anywhere more peaceful.

My partner and I stayed a night at The Bodie Hotel recently and it completely exceeded our expectations (which were already pretty high lol). I’m from bigger cities and have spent most of my life staying in hotel chains when traveling, but this hotel had so much more character and warmth than what I’m used to. The owners are incredibly kind and Jeff who checked us in stayed in touch when our check-in ran later than planned and welcomed us with great conversation and fascinating local history despite it being later at night. You can tell they really care about the place and the people who stay there. The hotel itself is full of antiques and little details that make it feel like stepping into a different time. You’d think a place with an alleged haunted history would be spooky, but it honestly just felt peaceful and cozy. That said, my partner swears he got poked by a ghost the morning we left - so who knows? We had such a great time for a short visit. If you’re looking for someplace with charm and a sense of history this place is absolutely worth it. Thanks for an amazing stay!!

Super convenient for a trip to Bodie! Owners are excellent communicators and hosts. Lots of character; plenty of things to do just within the hotel. 100% would stay again.
